Dinner with Teachers

Saturday night was so much fun! One of the teachers at the high school, Ms. Michelle, invited the five student teachers and Dr. K & C to her house for dinner. I wasn’t really sure what to expect but we were all excited about it on the walk over. Her house was a few blocks past the high school, which is about a mile and a half walk. It is a cute little bottom floor apartment next to a beach bar, so it was pretty easy to find. Mr. Kirk, Mr. Chey, Ms. Krista, and Ms. Michelle were there, all of which are teachers at the high school. The apartment smelled wonderful when we walked in, and Mr. Kirk was preparing the dumplings for the meal. Ms. Michelle introduced us to her daughter Kari and her one year old son Corey, who is extremely adorable! We sat around and talked for about an hour before the food was ready. Although Ms. Michelle had already done most of the cooking, it seemed like the men were doing a lot of the work. Mr. Kirk was making dumplings and Mr. Chey was making the drinks. It was interesting to converse with the teachers about school and about San Pedro. Corey always added his two cents… he is a very vocal child. The dinner that we had consisted of white rice, split peas with dumplings, and curry chicken. There was also ham tail in the split pea mixture which was interesting. It was all very good, especially washed down with Root Beer Fanta (a new favorite of mine). All of the sodas and drinks here come in glass bottles which they return to the bottlers. The walk back to Pedro’s that night was really relaxing, the weather was cool and there was a nice breeze coming in from off the water. It's nice that we have such a big group here, but the nights like that spent with just the high school teachers is always a treat!
