Hello everyone, I made i here safe and sound! Met up with about 7 other people in CLT yesterday and we all traveled together to the airport in Belize City. Once we arrived there, 3 of us split off to take the cheaper flight over to San Pedro. We made a few more stops and got to see a lot more of the water and the islands. The little puddle jumper planes are really fun but they toss you around quite a lot. The weather when we arrived was quite cooler than we expected. The taxi driver that took us from the airport to Pedro's told us that it was one of the last of the cold fronts of the season and warmer weather was not very far away. The air strip is basically the back yard for Pedro's Inn, so it wasn't a very long cab ride. Pedro's Inn is nicer than a lot of the accommodations but it is no resort. Look at it like a college dorm room with even thinner walls and spotty hot water.
Once we were all settled, we took a short walking tour of the surrounding neighborhoods and down the beach. We ate in two groups at a nice place on the beach (not too sure of the name). It is hard to all eat together since we have such a large group this year! The burritos were the size of my arm so I split it with Jeanne. It was delicious! After dinner we had some time to kill until the St. Patty's festivities began, so we all took cold showers and relaxed by the pool. We had seen on our beach walk earlier that there was a "chicken drop" later that night. Curious, of course, we had to check it out. Turns out a chicken drop is kind of like a giant game of bingo, but not. They have this giant grid of 100 numbers and people can buy a space (or number) on the grid to bet on. Then they take this poor chicken and shake him around a bit, blow on his little chicken butt, and toss him on the grid. Which ever number the chicken poops on is the winner! Interesting to say the least!
